I know that the natural tendency when trying to lose weight is to deprive yourself of calories or eliminate certain food groups. Obviously, in order to lose weight you need to decrease caloric intake, we all know that. However, some people take things to the extreme and knowingly or unknowingly cut out too many calories The worst thing you can do for your body is deprive it of the essential vitamins and minerals it needs for optimal function and longevity.
So what happens when you do not give your body what it needs? Here are some of the hazards of starving yourself:
- Body goes into “starvation” mode and makes you store fat
- Increased risk of diabetes and blood sugar imbalances
- Mood Swings
- Protein Deficiency
- Depleted Tryptophan which can lead to depression, low self-esteem, obsessions, and sugar/carbohydrate addictions
- Fat Deficiency
- Overworked Adrenals
- Low Thyroid Function
- Slow Metabolism
- Under functioning of the Digestive System
- Bone Loss
- Lowered Sex Drive
- Loss of Muscle
- Mental Disorders
- Lower Life Expectancy
- Risk of Developing an Eating Disorder
Listen, I have been there too. If you have read “My Story” on my website, you know that I have struggled with disordered eating in my past, and have had the misfortune of developing some of the symptoms above. Thankfully due to proper nutrition and a set protocol I have developed, I am feeling great these days! It breaks my heart to see people struggling with weight loss and doing cruel things to their body. I hope this article has provided you with a wakeup call.
